kd7sov: (not my eyes)
I swear, it's a superpower.

It's been years since I tried for a username and found it already taken.

For "me" stuff, that's because I use my callsign, but even for character journals... littleboyof5 and spockambassador (the latter never used) on Livejournal were the only second-choice usernames I remember ever having to use. Meanwhile I've had [personal profile] venusadept_2 and jeanluc_1701 and [personal profile] baron_dragoon and [personal profile] needs_fern and [personal profile] seriallylucky and [personal profile] dalzoon and obstnatearth and [personal profile] lepata and [personal profile] magnetic_hair and even [personal profile] sunshine_celerystalks... I remember once registering nx_74205_a at Runescape...

And I've looked at a number of others without actually making the accounts; ican_fixit (Fix-It Felix Jr.), imgonna_wreckit (Wreck-It Ralph), and directive_classified (EVE) come to mind at the moment, though I know there have been others.

It's just... weird. But I'm willing to use it for good; if you want me to help you pick out a username, and I know the canon, feel free to ask me and I'll tell you the first thing that comes to mind. It should be available.

Welcome back, faithful viewers, to another exciting episode of... Legacy Sims! Tonight: Finance! Robbery! Both ends of the Aspiration Scale! And... Vegetables!

For all these and more, stay with us! )
kd7sov: (hit in the face with a rock)
This week was not my best, I think. The Jerras are tough. No money, no fun, no comfort... but I think they're going to get better.

Anyway! Let's see what kind of kid the Vales have now! )

I don't feel like sorting through all the pictures I took of the Jerras, so mostly I'll just sum up. )

I think I'll wait a few days before coming back to that family.
kd7sov: (la)
So like I said last week, I've begun a Legacy Variant Challenge.

And I thought, why not let my readers-who-don't-say-anything (do they just stay home and lie around?) see it happen?

So here we go! )

All right, first try didn't go so well. Pull her out, bulldoze the lot, replace with a slightly less superhuge lot (5x5 instead of 5x6). Let's try that again.

Take 2! )

So that's Alex so far! Hope you enjoyed, please tip your servers.
kd7sov: (hit in the face with a rock)
When last we saw him, Felix had just headed off to college.

So let's see how he's settling in, shall we? )

...But I'm sure that Jenna and the other 'Zoons have crossed your mind;
How had college hit the family Felix left behind?

Not that great, but not bad, apparently. )

You know who we haven't seen for a while?

The Hammets )

More baby adventures! )

Sometimes the Jerras are weird. )

And then, having confirmed that vampires are present in my copy of the game, I did one more thing... )

And then I did some more with the Jerras, including aging Kay up, but the game locked up and I couldn't save. Rrr.
kd7sov: (Felix)
My current plan is to put these reports up pretty regularly, probably on Saturdays. We'll see how well that sticks.

So. Where to start, where to start... Aha!

Piers Picard and the Freshman Year )

At long last, we have some pictures of the Jerras! )

But what about the Dalzoons? )

To Be Continued...

In point of fact, I do have more pictures. But that seems like a good place to stop.
kd7sov: (glory)
(That should mean something like "studious dawn". I wanted the alliteration, and the concept of dawn, from GS:DD, and I've been taking a little Latin, but unfortunately I'm only a few weeks into the class.)

If you've been paying attention, you may have noticed that there's been a bit more time between this Golden Sims post - the third - and the second than between the first two. This is not, as you may have suspected, because I'm a flake. I am, but that's not why this took longer. No, it's because I got a new expansion. Yes, I now have Sims 2: University, and I wanted to make sure I understood how certain aspects of it worked before putting my Adepts through it. Also I was trying to build a custom college campus, Wey U, and having to figure out a few more things along the way. But that's done, and I can mess with my Weyardians again!

When last we left our heroes, Jenna had just had a birthday and was now a teen! Yeah, Jenna!

The next morning... )

The Jovian woes )

Piers Picard, or, dance party photodump! )

And, last but certainly not least, the Vales in Mission: Adorable. )

So, on that note, I finish. But only for now; tune in again soon!
kd7sov: (Felix)
When last we left our gallant heroes, we only had about half of them. Felix's family, Jenna and Faran, and Mia were all in the neighborhood, and Isaac's family had been created but not placed. This time... we change some of that. Also, in here I learned to take larger pictures, so be aware of that.

Let's get back to the Vales. )

Then we had the Jerra Trials. )

Next up... the Hammets! )

And, finally, some Dalzoon adventures! )

So that's that! We still need a Piers, but that'll have to wait until I find hair that seems right for him. I wouldn't mind suggestions for what types of community lot various canonical places might be - so far we've got Kalay as a recreation center, Hermes Pool, and Venus Park (right next to the Lighthouse). And soon, we can start Jenna's romance adventures.
kd7sov: (Felix)
As those of you who read my last post may be aware, I've been fiddling with Golden Sun characters in The Sims 2. I'm aware that someone else has done such a thing, but I think my attempts are sufficiently different.

So without further ado, I present...the Jupiters! )

Next up are the Dalzoons. )

One possibility for that is... Miss Mercury. )

And, finally, the Vales. )

So that's what I have so far. I still intend to make Garet's family (the Jerras, thanks to a mistaken translation of someone's name), Piers (probably surnamed Lemuria), and Ivan (with Hammet and Layana; possibly the Kalays?). I thought I had downloaded some hair for Garet, but it doesn't appear to be showing up.
kd7sov: (hit in the face with a rock)
Le sigh.

So. Pursuant to this DE a month or so ago, I have acquired a copy of The Sims 2. And so far, I am enjoying it. Even though I managed to not get the toddler in the first family I made toilet-trained before she aged up, and her demands to be let out of the crib absolutely wrecked her parents' sleep patterns.

But. One of the reasons I got it was to try running Golden Sun characters. And it's there I've encountered the problem.

First, some of them are not easily replicable in-game. Particularly the ones with blue hair. But that's okay, TS2 is very open to modifications, and plenty of people have made custom hairs and so on. Plenty. But then there's the second problem.

Naturally, one of the characters I want to make is Felix. And it would be silly to not concurrently make Jenna, given that she's both a fellow party member and his sister. The problem arises with the Family Tree requirement: every Sim in a given family must be related to, or be, at least one adult (or possibly elder; I haven't tried a family with elders but no adults). But Jenna, moreso than her agemates Isaac and Garet, strikes me as a teen Sim. So I go in, make an adult Felix and a teen Jenna... and it turns out there's no option to set an adult and a teen as siblings. Nor is there an option to set one adult as the child of another adult, so I can't just roll up a couple of parents and have them both be their kids.

So. The options, as I see them: 1) make Felix on his own; possibly make Jenna separately at a later time. 2) age Jenna to adult, and set them as siblings. 3) de-age Felix, and possibly Jenna, so that they're both juveniles; make parents, who may be able to be killed off when Felix is an adult. 4) just set Jenna as Felix's daughter, and live with it; what could possibly go wrong?

From [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna: Comment and I'll pick six interests of yours, which you then have to describe!

Fi picked:

These six. )

If asked, I could ramble on about Avalon Code for considerably more time, but it wouldn't be long before the discussion dissolved into spoilery stuff or disjointed musings about characterization and worldbuilding.
kd7sov: (temple)
Wow. Several greatnesses today.

First, my brother [livejournal.com profile] mikethecelloist has returned! After two years away, he's back!

Second, an Avatar sequel has officially been announced. "The Legend of Korra" is set to premiere sometime next year. Indications are that it will have much the same creative team, art style, and continuity as the Gaang's show.

Also, it appears EA is making a Spore-based online RPG. I know little about it so far, but the trailer's pretty neat.

Tuesday of next week will be the Day.

I have managed to get representatives of Hewlett-Packard Company to send a replacement for my computer. A box in which to send back my current computer should arrive within 3-4 days, and once FedEx (probably) registers it as picked up the replacement will be shipped, with an expected travel time of another 3-4 days. So, by the fifteenth (eight days from now) I should have my new computer.

Also, next Tuesday is the first day of Electronic Entertainment Exposition 2010, and the day on which Nintendo gives its E3 press conference. If there is to be any information on Golden Sun DS, any at all, something more substantial than the dozen screenshots we have will be presented or otherwise made available on the fifteenth.

So. Big day next week.
kd7sov: (Default)
As reported on the Golden Sun fansite Golden Sun Syndicate, Nintendo's annual report lists Golden Sun DS as a 2010 release (at least in America). This? Is not news. This hasn't been news since about four seconds after the initial announcement started.

What might be news is the confirmation that it probably won't be released as "Golden Sun DS". No information is offered as to what might replace that title, but it's more than we've had in over 335 days.

I just want something. A character name, a release date, an image of the fourth party member, an indication of who reappears...

...

Hm. I was in Target yesterday and noticed something.

Spore, the base game, was about $30. Spore: Galactic Adventures, the expansion, was $20. Three spaces further along I noticed Fallout Trilogy, a compilation of all three Fallout games, for $15.

I wonder whether that says more about the publishers or about how much software prices have changed in the last 13 years (since Fallout was first released).
kd7sov: (Felix)
You see, Camelot? This is the way to do it. Be all teasery, yes, but do it right. And then, most importantly, follow it up with an actual announcement: dates, characters, plot, and so on. Not "Hey, this thing you've been pestering us about for six years, and we haven't said anything? Yeah, it's coming up. Here's a half-dozen screenshots, a poster, and the word 'descendents', and that's all you're getting for the next TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY-EIGHT DAYS and likely beyond."

*shakes head*

As an aside, I may very well freak out if Portal 2 and GS 3 happen to have the same release date.

Grump 2.

Arglefraster! Camelot, what's wrong with you?

Okay, a few days ago I posted about an update on the new Golden Sun. Apparently some people have their copies of the magazine already, and have posted scans. The news is disappointing, to say the least.

What it says amounts to "We've been waiting years for this, and here it is! But all they'll tell us is that we're supposed to get it this year."

From the discussions on some of the fansites, it seems this is fairly consistent with how Camelot, the company behind Golden Sun, deals with their fans: by not telling them anything. Apparently back when they were publicizing the first one, they didn't mention Ivan (the third party member) for quite a long time.

*sigh* Day number two hundred thirty.

...How long has my journal title been misspelled?
kd7sov: (Default)
This could get a little long. )

It's quite interesting to notice which journals I recognize on which interest lists, and where from. It's particularly interesting to see which people share several of my interests without my having encountered them anywhere on LJ.

One of these days I want to find out what sorting algorithm LJ uses for the entries on the interest lists.

An update.

I decided, after my last post, to do some specific research. My numbers may be off, but probably by no more than five in any case.

My results, let me show you them. )

Very interesting results. For the curious, and for my own future reference, I include a list of the forty-six, arranged by character. )

Addendum: I ran this post through LJ's spellcheck. I'm interested to note that it doesn't recognize LJ, Picard, Karst, or pyro, but has no problem with RP or comm.

[Error: unknown template qotd]This, for me, is a toss-up between Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV. I don't usually go in for platformers, so those're about as old-school as I get.
