Yes, it's that time again! From [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna:

Fi asked:
1-What is it about the new My Little Pony that you like so much?
That is an excellent question. It is also a difficult one for me, but I'll try.

There is a rather well-known physics presentation in which the presenter lists why he likes the show. His list consists of six instances of "It's awesome", as well as "The animation is fantastic". Which is all true, but not necessarily helpful. I'll try to be a little more helpful.

First, it achieves the right balance of humor. It doesn't take itself too seriously, but it also doesn't put a lot of effort into parodying itself. Which leads into the second thing - the characters, nonhumanoid though they are, are real personalities. They interact and react the way ordinary people do. That they're very cute doesn't hurt either. And they're all relatable, even the fashionista and the Avatar of the Eternal Sugar Rush, neither of which I expected to sympathize much with at the beginning. Even though it's a show officially aimed at very young children, I don't feel talked down to when I watch it.

2-You can go back in time and ask any historical figure a question, who and what?
Ooh. I'm terrible at coming up with nonfrivolous questions to ask. Ummm... If we assume no language barrier, perhaps Pontius Pilate, from the New Testament. The question would be why he chose to release Barabbas instead of Jesus.

3-What's your favorite thing about where you live?
It's warm. Yes, it cools down in the winter, but for less time and (usually, I'm told) to a lesser degree than Utah.

4-You can only listen to one CD for the next three months, which one and why?
Ring Christmas Bells, the recording of the 2008 Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert.

First, let me point out that I have no objection to Christmas music outside of December. Indeed, I have never understood why many people seem to. This particular Christmas concert featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, whose voice is simply amazing. I could get along fine with no music other than this for some time. Not necessarily ecstatically, but fine.

5-What's your favorite meal for improving your mood?
I don't believe I've ever thought of mood-lifting meals before. Foods, certainly, but mostly as snacks.

There is one, though. "Barbecue ham sandwiches". Basically it's shaved ham, mixed with jelly, ketchup, and a couple of other things, on toasted hamburger buns. Rather messy, but very sweet and delicious. Always worth a smile.
