Hm. Images on my flist-view appear to be borked. The banner ad from the top shows up again where one of [livejournal.com profile] kippurbird's deviantArt pics should be, another is replaced by a youTube video [livejournal.com profile] adiva_calandia embedded in an entry that fell off the front page a while ago... Hm.

In other news, I've been continuing to (re)read the Deep Space 9 relaunch, and I've finally gotten to the point where I can get them directly from the local library system instead of Inter-Library Loans searching all over the country. Who knew Star Trek books aged so poorly? (For reference, these books have been coming out, a few per year, since 2001; the local library system has Book 1 of the two-book set that started it, and then... ah. Memory Beta tells me I'm mistaken; the majority were published 2001-04, with a gap and then a resurgence beginning last year. So the library is only actually missing the first two years.)

Also, some of you may recall that I'm watching Avatar. I'm now into season 3. Most interesting are the paired, recurring thoughts on Zuko: "He needs a haircut" and "How'd he get my hair?" It's true; my hair has often, in the past, looked the way S3!Zuko's does when he doesn't have it all pulled back in the topknot.

Backtracking a bit into S2, there's something distinctly unfair going on. I had encountered Toph's name before, in written form, particularly in reading through the archives of [livejournal.com profile] shatterverse and [livejournal.com profile] trans_9, and assumed it was pronounced "tohf by fong". This is contradicted by the characters in-show, which I suppose to be their prerogative. However, I asked my brother, who knows nothing about Avatar but what I've said in passing and what he can infer from the DVD cases, to tell me how he thought it should be pronounced. He immediately gave the canonical pronunciation. Someone must be cheating.

Also in S2, the episode "The Serpent's Pass" caused quite a double-take, one that may take some explanation. Some time ago, probably starting mid-'04, I had a number of ideas for a Golden Sun fanfic. One of these involved Mia, a Water Adept with a talent for healing, traveling along at least one river on a platform of Psynergetically-produced ice. Another, somewhat more nebulous, involved undersea travel by bubble. To see both of these, only a little different than what I'd been envisioning but had never mentioned or showed to anybody, was fairly startling.

May I just say, I adore Toph? And Iroh. And Toph-Iroh. And I still want to know why he can't get his name in the credits - he's always credited as "Uncle".
