I have recently discovered that nothing I have encountered disturbs me more than oversized crustaceans. I suspect that it has to do with the combination of tails or antennae with numerous spindly articulated legs.
Although giant furry ants are a close contender. (That must be the longest-remembered dream I have ever had. I don't even remember very much of it, except that it involved a horde of two-inch-long ants and a giant two-foot-long one, all in black and red patches, and they had me cornered on my bed.)
