A curious dichotomy; also, memes!
Jan. 31st, 2010 10:02 amI've long been fond of the idea of dropping character X into canon Y, especially when both X and characters from Y can manipulate elements. In fact, one thing I'd like to do in
mixed_muses at some point involves sticking Felix into the Avatar world and have him need to figure out how to earthbend. And yet...
I've been reading a particular Golden Sun fanfic in which, for reasons that are unclear to me, several party members decide to enter Colosso (an annual gladiatorial contest that features in the first game). One of the battles pits Felix against Piers, his party's water-manipulator. Apart from the opening two moves, one of which could be an interpretation of in-game actions, it's move-for-move a plausible duel between a waterbender with an ice specialization and an earthbender. (In canon, the only movement associated with Psynergy is a raised hand, like so:
) Slamming one's foot into the ground to make a pillar to launch an opponent into the air... sending out a shockwave in all directions... covering the floor of the arena with water, then freezing it by switching hands... both wrists forward to send a shower of ice shards... All clearly bending-derived, and somehow it perturbs me. It appears that I'm less willing to deal with other people's concept-crossovers than with my own.
But enough of that. Memetime!
Meme the first: Pick one or more of my icons, and ask me about it. I'll be willing to explain where I got it, why I like it, what it means, and so on.
Meme the second: Sort us! Tell me what Hogwarts house you think I, or one of my characters, best fits. Explanations encouraged.
