I realized, upon reading another
limyaael rant, that it didn't have to be medievaloid. I'm now pretty sure it's at least somewhat mid-twentieth-centuryish, at least to the extent of having a space race.
My brain recently informed me that this world contains elves, of a sort, and that they are "generally considered the most irritating things since comparisons to sliced bread," which I consider a rather nifty way to put it. These elves, furthermore, breed like rabbits for about a third of the year, so they're something of a threat as well. They are not naturally occurring on this world, but are, like many other creatures, the result of magical experimentation with genes.
I also have the beginnings of a character. In one of
limyaael's rants, I think the first one in December of 2005, she talked about the heroine believing herself to be under suspicion when Something Strange happens in her village. Immediately someone sprang into my head, having caused the same sort of Suspicious Things but trying to reform - thus being a natural target for said suspicion.
