A fuller response to Heroes
First of all, the framing device sucked. Last season, we had "Six Months Ago", which had Hiro going back in time and also showed other things that were going on at the time. But this one seems to be intended as Peter's flashback. How is he supposed to know, for instance, any of the Mayajandro stuff? or the Niki-DL plot?
Like I said earlier, DL died stupidly. I mean, he was a firefighter! How hard would it have been for him to die in a fire, trying to rescue someone? That could have made his son proud. Getting shot by a jealous boyfriend of false pretenses? Not so much. Bad call there, writers.
Giddy!Niki, as seen in the second DL hospital scene, just rubs me the wrong way. I have no idea why.
Gina, on the other hand, scares me. (I have odd taste in fear. Umbridge, for instance, scares me many times more than Voldemort could ever hope to.) Whereas, for instance, Jessica merely disturbs me, and Elle is a creepy person I would not want to meet even on a daylit highway. Also, Gina gives the impression when she first shows up that she's supplanted Jessica - and, frankly, I can't see Jessica tolerating her presence in the body if she can possibly avoid it. So are they, despite appearances, coexisting, or was Gina replaced by Jessica's return?
But then, clearly we're not supposed to like Elle.
Peter confuses me. Clearly he gained DL's power at Kirby Plaza. This strongly suggests that proximity is the only requirement for him to gain a power. However, I would in that case expect him to be showing signs of Micah's, Molly's, and his mother's powers by now were that the case, plus Sylar's other abilities. And yet he hasn't. And then, when he was breaking out, he seems to have known that he would phase. HOW? He had never met DL before, nor had anyone ever mentioned to him that there was someone who could phase. He had no opportunity to test what new abilities he had gained after Kirby Plaza. It is a plot hole.
So we have now seen "Matrelli"'s power in action. What do we think it is? Does she Parkman? (This at least would account for Peter not showing signs of her ability thus far, although it would seem somewhat unusual to have two telepaths on the same team, what with the wide range of displayed abilities.) Does she Haitian Sr.? Does she Eden?
The other thing is the transfusion. How, exactly, does that work? We have been told, repeatedly, that each of these powers is genetic. I have the genes for blue eyes, and yet people who get transfusions of my blood don't get blue eyes, even temporarily. Further, aside from the (presumably rare) empaths, it seems that the only way to get someone else's power is to consume their brain. Is this a lie? Would, for instance, Hiro's blood enable people to bend time and space temporarily?
My impression is that we're not supposed to think about it, sort of like we're not supposed to wonder how Mohinder has antiviruses.
Lots of plotholes to work out in the next three episodes.
