Oh, Brain.
As some of you may recall, some time ago I did a thing linking up Harry Potter characters with the Signs from The Dark is Rising.
It appears that Brain has decided I must do the same thing to another set of six characters.
We start with the Sign of Iron. Iron, according to the poem, is "for the birthday". Now, the only birthday we see is Pinkie Pie's, but Pinkie is... not iron. Not in any way. So we go back to the context of the Sign itself.
Iron was the first Sign that Will is given, and there is some implication that it was given specifically for protection. In My Little Pony, Applejack is the first one to speak up and object when Twilight wants to go into the woodsand happily ever after! on her own. She has a tendency to put herself on the front lines, and in Dragonshy is apparently the group's go-to warrior. I'd say Applejack is a pretty good fit for Iron.
Bronze, the next sign, is "carried long". We could give this one to Spike, although if we do there's nothing for it but to hand Iron over to Gummy and throw up our hooves in despair. So, context again.
The reason Bronze is carried long is as punishment for Hawkin's disloyalty. This could point to Rainbow Dash for Bronze, but I think she's better suited further along. So we look further. Hawkin's disloyalty, his role, center around making sure Will has the knowledge he needs to act as an Old One. Knowledge and learning - Twilight Sparkle. Twilight is our Bronze.
Wood, from the burning. There isn't really any "burning" in MLPno stoppit brain zuko's completely separate, so once again the Sign itself gives us the answer.
"There are qualities in rowan, as in no other wood on earth, that we need. But also there are strains on the Sign that rowan cannot survive as oak might, or as iron and bronze do." Fluttershy has qualities pretty much unique among ponies, that are often used in the resolution of plots. She is also much more susceptible to strains than the other ponies. I can think of nopony better suited for the Sign of Wood.
With Stone we can begin to use the poem for our decisions. Stone is "out of song". Pinkie Pie is, indubitably, the most musical pony on the show. And while I can't recommend her for Iron, Stone seems to fit all right.
Fire, sadly, doesn't give us much help. It's "in the candle-ring", which doesn't particularly correspond to anypony. That said, Rainbow Dash is a shoo-in for Fire, by nearly any definition.
This leaves Rarity for Water, which I think suits her pretty well. She even follows the poem a little bit - Water is "from the thaw", and she can be a bit of an ice queen at times.
Incidentally, I have no idea what to do with the "Three from the circle, three from the track" part. All six are female, there are two of each race... maybe something to do with the fact that three of them have manes and tails in colors vaguely similar to their coats?
