As some of you may know, I'm a fan of the Rune Factory series. For those unfamiliar, this is a fantasy-themed spinoff of the Harvest Moon games, which takes the original's farming system and adds Zelda-like combat and a fantastic quest.

As I imagine you're not aware, unless you're really good at putting things together or you're a StE person (and I haven't noticed any of those subscribing to me here), I've recently become a fan of RWBY, Rooster Teeth's new project. Not long ago I wouldn't have imagined I'd be interested in any Rooster Teeth thing, but I digress.

Every so often I get an urge to write some other character into a Rune Factory crossover. The setting lends itself well to this - the protagonist (at least in the first three numbered iterations; I don't know 4 yet and I understand the console ones are different) always shows up with complete amnesia, and has to work to befriend the townsfolk and improve the farm he's randomly given and complete the quest.

Now, usually the target of this urge is Felix. This is perhaps not extraordinarily surprising, as Felix has been in my head a long time, and I have a pretty good idea of how he'd fit the setting and deal with various parts of it.

But this week, during my RWBY review (because the episodes are so short it's hardly worth watching them one at a time, so I do a full rewatch Thursday afternoons before the new one's released) I was hit by a line of Ruby's in episode 5: "... doesn't mean I don't know how to deal with monsters!" To which my brain said "Would you like to test that?"

Because, you see, in Rune Factory monsters are both combat opponents and farm help. You can "tame" individual monsters instead of fighting them and they'll help you out in combat or give you stuff (like milk or wool) or work your fields for you or recently all three. So "taking care of monsters" can mean both fighting them off and making them welcome.

Of course, I don't actually have a Ruby headvoice. I'm pretty sure I could manage to write Weiss or Ren with little to no problem, but Ruby is... not close enough to my usual type. Verbose I could probably handle; garrulous, not so much.

Just thought I'd share.
